GMC Acadia vs Chevy Traverse: Safety Ratings
When shopping for a new vehicle, one of the most important factors to take into consideration is safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) are two of the industry’s highest regarded agencies for automobile safety ratings.
The NHTSA gave both the 2017 GMC Acadia and the 2017 Chevy Traverse a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating, which is their highest designation. Meanwhile, the IIHS named the 2017 GMC Acadia a 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK. In order to achieve this honor, a vehicle must earn Good ratings in all five of the institute’s crash tests, plus an Advanced or Superior rating for front crash prevention.
The 2017 Chevy Traverse didn’t earn any special safety designation from the IIHS, mainly due to its Basic rating for front crash prevention.
